American Whore

Mom called,
She was screaming as usual
There was nothing peculiar
About this call
I just wish I never picked up at all.

I was born into a world of broken dreams
Where the price for a better life can′t be redeemed
I’ve been searching for a way out of this broken place
But I feel like I′m stuck living in the space between

This is the experience of being an American Whore
It′s a life that I never even really asked for
It’s a blessing, it′s a curse, it’s a life that I can′t reverse
A rewind time I can no longer afford
This is the experience of being an American Whore
It’s a life that I never even really asked for
I′m just trying to make it out alive
Much less, trying to survive

I’ve been walking through the darkness, searching for a light
But it feels like I′m going nowhere in my fight
I’m trying to make my way in a world that doesn’t care
But I can′t seem to find the strength to make it there

This is the experience of being an American Whore
It′s a life that I never even really asked for
It’s a blessing, it′s a curse, it’s a life that I can′t reverse
A rewind time I can no longer afford
This is the experience of being an American Whore
It’s a life that I never even really asked for
I′m just trying to make it out alive
Much less, trying to survive

I can hear them talking, the whispers in my ears
Working my ass off with nothing to show for years
To them I’m a body, to me I′m my soul
Making them mad by, and I quote, getting out of control

Sitting on his lap, building up my reputation
Getting ready for the culture’s condemnation
Sing about the abuse, the glamor
Think it’s time that I drop the hammer

And I said, I was
I was just trying to make it out alive
But for him I’ll stay,
For him I will stay
