i could find a boy in fine leather

By October 1, 2025No Comments2 min read

if i could have seen you
underneath the milky green
of odd day skies
i could have been the one
to shine
to make up for all that was mine
that fell down the stream
and let you go off with me.

if i knew what mary in a handbasket
hell in alaska
telling me off in nantucket
holding another flask of
strawberry wine was,
i’d be there in time
wishing, wanting, doing it like mine

he would be not just another boy
dancing in fine leather
washing the car and waxing it
with my sweater scarf
holding out for finer weather
can’t believe he would utter
the world on his breath
they should have stayed in his chest
and become his full metal vest
instead he just lied.

if i could have been you
over the blue grass
of kentucky derby hat day
i would have started
to shine
to make up for all that was yours
that carried me up the steps
and let you city off the sex
of me.

if i only knew what the president was saying
john fucker kj playing
holding me closer to you
instead of coming through
blueberry sprite
nothing i’d write
home about.
wishing, wanting, doing it for clout.

he’d just be another boy
dancing in fine leather
washing the car and waxing it
with my sweater scarf
holding out for finer weather
can’t believe he would utter
the words under his breath
they should have stained his white vest
and become his bulletproof chest
instead he just tried
tried to find the answer
but he lied.
he lied to me.

chess
vests are cowards at best
no vests are chests
chess
