crystal lake central high school

i was going to be famous by 15, dead at 30.
look ma i made it.

i spent high school kicking it with the wrong crowd
and by that i mean the non band geeks–
like i’m not a druggy, or into flutes
i’m a quiet little shy art freak.
i paint pictures of fucking trees
why won’t rory fucking notice me?
oh because i’m so invisible
so invisible i had food thrown in my hair
by the cheerleaders
just for existing.
same as bea.
have you ever been hit for not doing the extra credit?
i have. by my best friend, taryn.
i said, “i didn’t spend my time doing the regular work,
i sure as hell am not spending more time doing extra work.

some people can’t hold their turmoil.

but in those halls
of crystal lake central high school–
we couldn’t help but wonder,
maybe these bitches know we’ll be famous soon?
i mean it’s only a matter of time–
someone from hollywood sees us in the hallway
turns to us and says “hey little ladies,
ready to take this to the movies?”
we’d be like, “i thought you’d never ask it.”
but that’s a lie, we manifested it.

now by the time i’m writing this
i’m obviously dead.
it’s been 8 years now
just living in heaven
with a halo over my head
thinking about how fun it was to win
that posthumous oscar
for playing that drug addict
who turned tricks
for a prositute
that she loved, named gloria.

how did i die?
natural causes.
when did i catch my big break?
at 15.

walking down the halls of central
with beatriz jara
talking about photography homework
and wondering if we could “hi gina, bye gina” steve,
or if maybe it was time for us to leave.
find someone better to waste time on.
what’s bobby or ted doing?
maybe cam, dave or mark?
are they single?
well, there is only one way to find out!

walk the other direction and go hide in art class.

“oh hi dave, forgot you were in here.
got any pointers on how to, ummm
load a canon?”
nah? okay.
and then we pretended to look at colleges.
luckily you don’t have to attend college
when the placement test you took, says you’d make a great
“vending machine restocker.”
SHOCKER.
good thing we’re are about to be famous,
right bea?
right.

it’s been 25 years since we turned famous at 15.
i’m glad we stuck to our guns.
